BR 2-08: Hansel and Gretel

I read a book. The book's title is Hansel and Gretel. The story is famous, but I don't know much. So I want to read it.

Hansel and Gretel were very poor, and their stepmother was very scared. So their dinner was only a slice of bread. They were always starving. They finished eating dinner, so they went to their room to sleep. When they were into their bed, they heard nagging downstairs. The stepmother said "Tomorrow, we'll take Hansel and Gretel deep into the forest, and leave them there!" When they heard that, they were scared, but Hansel had an idea. At the night, he tiptoed outside. There were a lot of white pebbles that gleamed in the moonlight. He collected as many as he could and stuffed them into his pocket.

The next day, the stepmother asked them to walk in forest. Hansel squeezed Gretel's hand as they left the house, pretending they knew nothing. Finally, the stepmother said "The children should rest." And the father and mother walked away. But Hansel did not in a hurry, because he put the stone on the passed road. So they could come back their home. But the mother was not happy. She decided to leave them in more deep forest tomorrow. So Hansel crumbled the bread along the way to leave the trail. Soon, the trees were so thick, so they blocked out the sky. And the mother and woodcutter also left them.

When they also went back home, the bread disappeared, because many birds ate that. They were very trouble. They couldn't come back their home. By morning, Hansel still didn't have a plan. So he decided to walk until they find the edge of the forest. They walked all the day, and there were a little house. The house was made by sweets, so the wall and the roof and the windows were able to eat. They were very happy, and they ate that. But there was an old woman in the house. The woman was a nasty witch, so Gretel confined her in the oven.

Safe at last, Hansel and Gretel searched the witch's house for goodies. They took some jewels and a basket of snacks, and then set off the trees. The birds showed them they way home. The woodcutter was overjoyed to see them. As for their stepmother ? She wasn't there. They lived happily.

When I finished reading this book, I was able to understand all the story. I didn't know why they made the tail of bread, but I know now. The stepmother was bad woman, but Hansel and Gretel were very strong and kind. I thought good to this story finished by happy end. I gave spirits from the story. I want to read it again.
